The Birmingham Jewellery Quarter has been at the heart of the jewellery trade for more than two hundred years. The Jewellery Quarter gained its title due to a congregation of factories, workshops and skilled workers, and this led to the creation of a self sufficient community of specialists. This community of specialists also includes the Birmingham Assay Office, trade associations such as the British Jewellers' Association, and a jewellery school which is part of Birmingham City University.
